If ever there was a good time for you to invest in a car hire Leicester firm with a real reputation for quality and reliability, then it’s now. More news has been surfacing regarding car hire scams, designed to take advantage of unaware consumers at this time of year.
In the run up to the festive period last year, the Guardian reported that a firm known as ‘Rentmac’ had taken money from hundreds of consumers, promising high quality vehicles at great prices. The vehicles never arrived.
Now, the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association has warned consumers that similar scams could well occur in the run up to Christmas this year, and that it has ‘already made contact with police and trading standards over one potential threat’.
Whilst they declined to issue any further details on this particular matter, they did once again highlight the need to be wary, and to ensure that people really do need to only rent vehicles from firms with a good reputation for reliability. The following tips were also offered:
-Don’t pay any firm that only accepts bank transfers or cash. Any reputable rental company should really be accepting debit and credit payments.
-Ensure that a firm operates from a genuine, commercial address, and not from a ‘virtual office’ or a PO box.
-Ensure that it actually owns all of the cars that it’s offering for rental.
-Finally, always look out for firms that have officially registered with the BVRLA, as this is an indication that the rental firm has been fully vetted as being reliable and respectable.
Happy driving, and a very merry Christmas from all of us at Rent Direct!
